This is the general process. Dates and fees change every year, so confirm them on jamb.gov.ng before you start.

1. Get your NIN.
You need a National Identification Number (NIN) from NIMC. If you do not have one, enrol at a NIMC centre early; queues get long close to registration.

2. Get your JAMB profile code.
Send NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN by SMS from the phone number you want on your JAMB profile to the number JAMB announces (it has been 55019 or 66019). You will receive a 10-character profile code. The SMS is charged, so have airtime.

3. Buy your e-PIN.
Pay for the UTME e-PIN through the payment options JAMB lists. Keep the PIN safe.

4. Register at an accredited CBT centre.
Take your profile code, e-PIN and NIN to an accredited centre. They will capture your biometrics, photo, subjects and choices of institution.

5. Check everything before you leave.
Confirm your name, date of birth, subjects and course choices are correct, and print your registration slip.

Problems with the profile code SMS? Ask in this forum and mention your network.
